Frequently asked questions
Everything writers ask before they press Generate.
What is AudioForge?
AudioForge is a narration and creative-assistance platform for writers. You write or paste your story, choose a voice, genre, and narration style, and hear your work performed — then edit any sentence and regenerate only the changed audio.
Do I need to record anything to hear my story?
No. Narration is generated from your text using the voice you choose. Recording only comes in if you decide to clone your own voice later.
What happens when I edit my chapter after generating audio?
AudioForge tracks narration in segments. When you edit, only the affected segments are marked outdated and regenerated. Unchanged audio is preserved, and you can compare the old and new versions before keeping one.
Who owns my writing?
You do, completely. Projects are private by default, and nothing you write is shared or published unless you export and share it yourself.
What is Writer Buddy?
Writer Buddy is an optional AI writing assistant. It brainstorms ideas, checks continuity, improves dialogue and read-aloud flow, and remembers your story per project. It never edits your manuscript without your approval, and it is always clearly labeled as AI.
Does Writer Buddy remember my story?
Yes — with your approval. Important facts are saved as Canon, Planned, or Temporary memories only when you confirm them, memory is isolated per project, and you can view, edit, or delete everything it knows.
Can Writer Buddy write my book for me?
Writer Buddy supports you without taking control. It offers options and suggestions; you remain the author and make every final decision.
Can I use the free voices commercially?
Each voice shows its own permissions: in-app use, export, commercial use, and external use. Check the voice card — permissions are enforced by the platform, so you always know what a voice allows before exporting.
Can I clone my own voice?
Private voice cloning is coming. It requires explicit consent confirmations, your clone stays private to your account, the raw model can never be downloaded, and you can pause or delete it at any time.
Can someone clone my voice without permission?
Unauthorized voice cloning is prohibited. Cloning requires consent confirmations, consent records are stored, and unauthorized voices can be reported and removed.
What is the Voice Marketplace?
A future expansion where verified, consenting voice creators license their voices to writers — starting with a simple one-time unlock (planned at $5) that permanently adds the voice to your AudioForge library under the creator's license.
What export formats are supported?
MP3 and WAV, from a single sentence up to a combined audiobook file with normalized volume, smooth transitions, and chapter markers. More formats may be added later.
Does AudioForge work on my phone?
Yes. The website and the writing workspace are built to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
